Advisory Board Member

Corey Johnson is an award-winning investigative reporter at ProPublica.  He was on a team that won the 2022 Pulitzer Prize in Investigative Reporting for an expose of highly toxic hazards inside Florida’s only battery recycling plant for the Tampa Bay Times. 

Johnson is a former reporter at The Marshall Project where he investigated wrongdoing and systemic problems in criminal justice.  Before that he was an investigative reporter at The Center for Investigative Reporting where he produced enterprise and investigative stories concerning state, local and federal governmental oversight in California. 

Johnson’s work triggered investigations and spurred California’s first law against coerced prison sterilizations. His reporting on deficient school earthquake safety also won national journalism honors and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. He specialized in watchdog reporting on excessive secrecy, abuse of power, regulatory capture and mismanagement. He is the co-founder Ida B. Wells Society for Investigative Reporting to increase investigative reporting among journalists of color.
